I'm intrigued by the idea of building a game that could surprise me (in a good way). So, despite the fact that I built it in the first place, it produces in-game events or effects that I did not expect. That would be the mark of a truly impressive game, to me.

PPS - I once started designing a space exploration game with this goal, and never got any further.
